Effective 9/20: Staffing changes in stationsOn Sunday, September 20, MTA New York City Transit will begin the phase out of Station Customer Assistants (SCA), who did not handle money or sell MetroCards, at subway stations throughout the system. Posters have been installed at all affected areas. A full time Station Booth will remain in each station. The reduced staffing of stations is necessary to help balance New York City Transit's operating budget and is part of the agency's overall cost-savings effort approved last March by the Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. At the locations where a Station Customer Assistant is no longer assigned, customers can continue to enter and exit at these locations through the turnstiles using a MetroCard. Customers using wheelchairs, strollers or carrying large or bulky items should use a full-time station entrance. Customers can communicate with the agent in a full-time booth by use of the Customer Assistance Intercom. Red signs with white letters that read "Customer Assistance Intercom" are posted in these areas and have an arrow that points to where the intercom is located. With the press of a button, customers are connected to the agent in the full-time booth in the station.
