Thanksgiving Holiday Travel

Our special Thanksgiving Weekend schedule is “stuffed” with trains to get you to all of the activities you have planned for the long four-day weekend. Thanksgiving Holiday Timetables are available at the Grand Central Information Booth and at outlying ticket offices. Or visit our schedules page for train times.

On Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, November 25) we will operate extra early getaway trains, beginning at 1 PM, so you can get a jump on your holiday preparations. (Because of decreased ridership in the PM peak, some trains will be combined or eliminated. See a current October 18 timetable for details on early getaway service or visit our schedules page.)

On Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26) we will operate a holiday schedule with extra AM inbound service for those of you going to the Macy’s Parade. (See a Holiday Timetable for details or visit our schedules page.)  There will also be lots of late morning/early afternoon outbound service, and plenty of inbound evening service to get you back home.

On the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, November 27) we will operate a “Saturday” schedule with extra service during the AM and PM peak time periods. (See a Holiday Timetable for details or visit our schedules page.)

Wassaic Branch Customers: click here to see Thanksgiving Holiday Service Additions.

Remember:

Off-peak fares will be in effect for the entire four-day holiday period.

Take advantage of free parking at many of our stations. (Check for signs, or visit our stations pages or 212-532-4900 for more info.)

Save time and purchase your train tickets before the holiday. We recommend:

            - Webticket. It provides fast, free, home delivery of your  ticket and lets you save you 5% on any ticket (except a monthly) by purchasing it online.

            - Ticket machines. In Grand Central, try our new ticket Machine center located just under the archway to the Lexington Avenue subway, or across from Track 34. Ticket machines are also at outlying stations.

Remember: On Thanksgiving Day you must have your train ticket before boarding the train at Grand Central Terminal or Harlem-125th Street Station.

West-of-Hudson

On Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, November 25) there will be pre holiday getaway service.

-On the Port Jervis Line, look for an early train departing Hoboken at 2:45 PM, and Penn Station at 2:37 PM (connecting at Secaucus at 2:46 PM). Due to light ridership, the 6:11 PM from Hoboken/6:03 PM from Penn Station will not operate.

-On the Pascack Valley Line, catch an early 2:51 PM train from Hoboken and 2:37 PM  from Penn Station (connecting at Secaucus at 2:46 PM). Due to light ridership, the 5:55 PM from Hoboken/5:45 PM from Penn Station will not operate.

On Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26) a weekend/holiday schedule will be in effect.

-On the Port Jervis Line, for those of you heading to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, look for an extra train departing Port Jervis at 6:21 AM. And to get you home in the early afternoon, and extra train will depart Hoboken at 12:14 PM and Penn Station at 12:07 PM (connecting at Secaucus at 12:16 PM).

See our schedules  page for more info.

From Friday, Nov. 20, at 10 PM through Sat., Nov. 21, 12 Noon, the following trains may experience delays of 10 to 15 minutes in the area of Harriman due to signal improvement work being conducted by Metro-North and NJ TRANSIT. New Ticket Machine Center Opens in Grand Central
Our new Ticket Machine Center, located on the Main Concourse just under the archway leading to the Lexington Avenue subway, is officially open. This new facility will help alleviate the lines at our ticket windows and in the 42nd Street Passage, where ticket machines were formerly located, giving you a quicker and more comfortable purchasing experience.

The new center houses 10 machines (one for Metrocards only), and is well-lit, climate-controlled, and monitored by security cameras. It looks good, too, featuring a “Montauk” black floor, and the original façade’s large rectangular windows and bronze transom (the half moon grating above the windows). We think it fits nicely with our other “ticket” center, situated across from Track 34. (About 60% of our tickets are purchased via ticket machines. So this is truly a case of giving the people more of what they want…)

On the Port Jervis Line: Following recent capital improvements, look for faster westbound (to Port Jervis) travel times between Harriman and Port Jervis on most trains.

On weekends, the 8:13 PM train departing Spring Valley will now depart at 8:10 PM.

Port Jervis Weekday Off-Peak Busing Oct. 12 - Nov. 20
Buses will substitute for weekday off-peak Port Jervis Line trains operating in both directions between Harriman and Port Jervis stations from 9 AM – 3:30 PM.

Buses will follow train schedules at all stations except Salisbury Mills. Eastbound (to Harriman) buses will depart this station 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled train time to meet train connections at Harriman.

New Bike Policy
You'll love Metro-North's new bike friendly policy. It makes it easier for those who use bicycles as part of their travel plans and activities to ride our trains, and it does not affect the quality of our service for you "regular commuters" who don't. So everyone wins!

The new policy now allows bicycles: On most trains scheduled to depart from Grand Central Terminal between 5:30 AM and 9 AM, 3:01 PM and 3:59 PM, 8:01 and 8:15 PM, and on connecting trains. On most trains arriving in Grand Central GCT between 4 PM - 8 PM, and on connecting trains.

Please remember: bicycles are still not permitted on inbound AM Peak and outbound PM Peak trains as well as during the holiday periods from which they are currently prohibited. (Exceptions to this policy are identified in your timetable.)

In addition, allowing bicycles on our trains will be at the discretion of our conductors, should conditions on a particular train warrant their being prohibited. (Folding bikes, however, are allowed on board all Metro-North trains. Please fold your bike before boarding and don't block the aisle or doors. ) View a bike permit application for full details.

Online Ticket Scams

Beware of online ticket scams! The only official way to purchase Metro-North Railroad tickets online is from WebTicket. Some customers have reported "bogus" websites offering nonexistent ticket discounts.

Do not use these sites. If a railroad ticket offer seems too good to be true -- it probably is. You will never receive a ticket and you will have given someone access to your credit card information.

Again, only purchase tickets online from WebTicket. To avoid confusion, bookmark that page today.
